The scientific search for the ultimate wrinkle cream
In its search for the right ingredients and technologies to produce a ground breaking anti wrinkle cream, the people at South Beach Skincare travelled the world.
The time and money involved in this quest certainly appears to have been worth it, if the response to the company's LifeCell anti-aging anti-wrinkle cream is anything to go by. The stated benefits of the individual ingredients are science-based, the testimonials (from real people!) are more than impressive, and the guarantee is enough to tempt even the most sceptical consumer.
South Beach's research extended to Sweden, to the Karolinska Hosptial, an internationally renowned medical institute. At Karolinska studies were conducted on Life Cell ingredient D3PA's anti wrinkle and anti aging effects on the facial skin of women with an average age of 54.5. The scientists determined that after only 12 weeks of applying D3PA "statistically significant improvement" was found in the women's skin, all showing a 50.8% decrease in skin roughness, and a dramatic difference in "the clinical characteristics related to photo-aging".
The LifeCell ingredient Idebenone was the focus of research conducted by the Northwestern University Medical Center's Dr Andrew Scheman. He concluded that "Smaller-than-ever molecules make Idebenone an agile, streamlined version of its chemical cousin, CoQ10. They can slip readily into dermal cells in the deepest layer of the skin, where they neutralize destructive free radicals."
Attacking free radicals is one of the best ways of saving the collagen in our skin - collagen gives skin its strength and elasticity. Free radicals destroy collagen and as we age, our bodies produce less and less of it. European scientists who have conducted their own double-blind placebo tests on Idebenone concur. Their results showed that Idebenone dramatically reduces free-radical damage to our skin and the reason for its inclusion in LifeCell is obvious.
Very few cosmetic companies conduct truly independent tests or publish studies in the scientific literature on their products. They often allude to "studies" on fine wrinkles that are conducted by their own lab technicians. They can be uncontrolled studies, the results of which could never be published in peer-reviewed medical publications.
South Beach has taken pains to ensure that the efficacy of the ingredients that comprise LifeCell have been independently tested. The company was not to be satisfied with inferior grade ingredients, and had to jump through hoops with US Customs and the FDA to import premium grades of each where necessary.
LifeCell challenges consumers the time to examine the actual quantities of ingredients listed in their current anti-wrinkle cream, and to note if they are only included in 'token' amounts purely for advertising purposes. By comparing them to LifeCell, the difference will be astounding.
