Dithiolane-3-Pentoic Acid AKA D3PA

As we grow older our blood vessels and micro-capillaries become damaged and transport fresh nutrient filled blood to the surface of our skin less efficiently.  Our skin is literally starved of nutrients, and the result is damaged tissue that loses its youthful glow.  Age spots, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone then result - the classic signs of aging.  The South Beach Skincare people have taken this problem to task and they believe they have conquered it with their LifeCell product.  Let's take a look how.

They believe the solution is to dilate our capillaries in order to transport more nutrient rich blood cells to our skin's surface.  But until very recently this goal was unachievable.

In 1998 three scientists (Furchgott, Ignaro and Murad) shared the Nobel Prize for discovering a revolutionary compound called Nitric Oxide.  As a result research into the properties and uses of this compound is yielding more that 3,000 independently published scientific papers per year.  Medical journals voted Nitric Oxide "Molecule of the Year" for its amazing effects - and its discovery has resulted in previously unheard of possibilities for our skin.

You see, Nitric Oxide dilates our capillaries and, you guessed it, brings that nutrient rich blood to our skin.  However, administering it proved a problem because it cannot be applied directly to our skin because it is a gas.

Rather, it needs to be produced on the surface of our skin and this is done naturally by a compound in our bodies called Dithiolane-3-Pentoic Acid (D3PA).  D3PA levels decrease as we get older, but it a high concentration of it has been included in the LifeCell formulation.  This was a groundbreaking move by South Beach and reflects its commitment to backing all of its ingredients with proven science.

So the D3PA in LifeCell actually stimulates the body to produce its own Nitric Oxide - which in turn dilates the capillaries, which then bring nutrient rich blood to the skin.

Another therapeutic benefit of D3PA is that it is also a universal antioxidant, and as such destroys the free radicals in our body that are the by-products of everyday life.  Free radicals are known causes of wrinkles and aging, because they damage healthy skin cells.

When we were young our bodies produced enough antioxidants to tackle free radicals, but as we age they become less effective.  This allows free radicals to attack collagen, the integral part of our skin that gives it elasticity and strength.

The D3PA in LifeCell stimulates other antioxidants that are naturally produced in our bodies - Vitamin E, Vitamin C and Gluthaione.  It is unique in its ability to do so.  D3PA is fat soluble and water soluble so that it can reach skin cells below the surface of the skin.

LifeCell's D3PA has the added benefit of being an anti-inflammatory, and calms the skin's surface reducing  redness and blotchiness.

Some of the most highly regarded research scientists in the US have been amazed with the results they have observed when testing D3PA.  Dr. Lester Packer from the University of California (Berkley) has called it "probably the most potent, naturally-occurring antioxidant known to man", and a prominent Doctor from Yale University calls it a "wonder molecule " and an "unparalleled weapon in the battle against aging."

D3PA is just one of the revolutionary ingredients in LifeCell that makes it such a stand out in the anti-wrinkle cream and anti-aging cream markets.
