Anti-Ageing Cream: Fact or Fiction?
If there is one market that seems to have people, particularly women, ready to invest thousands of dollars in, its anti-aging or anti-wrinkle products. But the truth is, there is no cure for wrinkles!
There is a lot one can do to reduce getting wrinkles earlier that others, and there are great products to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Surgery, if done by a real professional, can certainly help for a few years (before the recipient submits to the scalpel again).
Botox and collagen injections both help in the short term - but can be expensive if used continually. But if you stop using these, your face will catch up!
As we age our bodies do not produce new cells as efficiently as they did when we were young. This is especially so for collagen and elastin which are important for giving skin its strength and elasticity. In addition the production of collagen is further challenged by free radicals that are in our bodies as a consequence of everyday living. These free radicals thrive on all the things that are bad for us: stress, pain, poor nutrition, overweight and obesity.
So bearing all of this in mind, is it then possible for an anti wrinkle, anti-aging cream to be effective?
This is where it is necessary to look to science rather than the advertising hype of glossy magazines and television commercials. It is really really important to look closely at the claims made by advertisers. Who are the people providing testimonials as to a cream's efficacy? Are the manufacturers able to support their claims with research done by independent bodies (or by their paid technicians?).
And very importantly, do they offer a guarantee?
The world-famous South Beach company has introduced a product called LifeCell that seems to tick all of these boxes. The backing it has from the scientific community is impressive. So as part of an overall attack on wrinkles and skincare, it looks very good indeed.
But any skincare product is only part of a multi-faceted approach to reducing or limiting the appearance of wrinkles. Improved lifestyle (including stopping smoking), eating healthy diet, drinking lots of water, avoiding stress and resting or meditating are each as important as the other.
The biggest requirement in combating wrinkles is motivation. Like all worthwhile goals, it will take a little sustained effort to accomplish your task - but the rewards will be obvious to all.
